Many fans have been taking things very seriously, as another fan’s violence encountered Boston Celtics player, Kyrie Irving.
Every time Irving touched the ball, he would become the subject of insult and swear. At some point, when he walked off the court, he was nearly hit by a bottle of water.
Kevin Durant commented on this violent fan interaction that fans need to grow up and they need to realize that basketball players are humans, not animals. He also reiterated that the game is not just about entertaining the fans, but it’s more on the discipline and respect they have for the game.
It is also noted that a Philadelphia fan also threw popcorn on Russell Westbrook last week and the Sixers had banned the fan from watching basketball games indefinitely. The same thing also happened to Trae Young when a fan from the opposing team spat on him.
After the incident, the broadcast focused on Irving and Nets guard Tyler Johnson looking and pointing for someone. The picture of the fan in handcuffs spread like wildfire on Twitter and he instantly gets a backlash from other fans.
Irving said in an interview that people felt very entitled. Being a Black player, he experienced these misfortunes a lot and it’s fairly difficult because he never knows what will happen next. He also didn’t think that banning or arresting these unruly fans is enough to solve everything because the problem is more on racism and how people treat them like they’re in a zoo.
