Friday, September 19, 2008 – The WNBA has begun its playoffs action. Just as they play a third of the games that the NBA does, so their playoffs are only a third as long, with series only 2 out of 3 rather than 3 out of 4.

*Thursday*The New York Liberty defeated the Connecticut Sun, 72-63, on the Liberty’s home court’. The Liberty had lost the last 3 of 4 games of the season, the Sun, 4 of their last 6.

For the Liberty, Shameka Christon scored 19 points, Cathrine Kraayeveld had 15 points and 10 rebounds, and center Janel McCarville put in 13 points.

For the Sun, Tamika Whitmore scored 16 points and Asjha Jones put in 11. They were the only players in double figures. Lindsay Whalen only scored 6 points, Svetlana Ambrosimova only scored 8.

The San Antonio Silver Stars went into the Monarch’s house and defeated them, 85-78.

Becky Hammon scored 30 points for the Silver Stars. Sophia Young put in 17.

For the Monarchs, Ticha Penicheiro scored 19 points and had seven assists. Nicole Powell scored 16 points, Crystal Kelly put in 12.
