San Antonio Spurs has to face free agent losses in the form of Brent Barry and its supporting cast in the form of Michael Finley and Bruce Bowen has weakened due to age. As a result it has become essential for Tony Parker to alter his style of play. In the past Parker was an icon of speed and decisiveness. Now his dominance in certain areas had diminished in an attempt to increase the versatility. However this alteration has not taken effect as was planned. The end result is that Parker is not as efficient as in the past.
Changes in technique
During the seasons 2005-06 and 2006-07 Parker was regarded as the King of the point guards of the league. However he has retrograded during the year 2007-08. During 2006-07 Parker concentrated on getting to the rim and gave up the long jumper. Before the 2005-06 season it was seen that if Parker made seven field goal attempts one was a three. However after the 2005-06 season his threes were reduced to one in every thirty shots. Parker taking threes became a rare event.
Parker’s weakness
In his current game Parker’s turnovers fluctuate and this is a weakness in his driving game. Although it cannot be said that Parker is not careful with ball when the head is held down in each trip it also means that a few easy steals are being offered. It is a fact the Parker is more protective than Steve Nash and Jason Kidd regarding turnovers but it is believed that a turnover is worse when compared with a missed longball.
