Expectations from a point guard
Irrespective of the denomination of the player the viewer expects four issues from a point guard. He must play defensively, he must not pass the ball to the other team, he must direct the ball to those players who can hit shots and he must hit shots. Jose Calderon is a humble point guard who is at present a master in the last three aspects and his defense is also not very bad. He possesses the apt energy and size for this position.
Previous season
In the last season the True Shooting Percentage of Calderon was 60.8 percent. This is really a big figure for a point guard. Although his scoring is infrequent he draws fouls or sinks shots when the scoreboard demands. In the previous season Calderon had just thirty minutes of play per game during which he dropped 8.3 assists. This performance was nice enough for the fifth position in the league. If one compares this performance with the Toronto list as well as with the other Raptors it is easy to conclude that Calderon’s level of passing is excellent.
Current season
In the regular season in the previous nine games Calderon has totaled 211 minutes. This calculates to 24 minutes per games in which he summed up 67 assists. This is sufficient proof that Calderon is a special ball-handler and his calling card is ball protection which can be considered to be simply dynamite.
