During his stay with the Golden State Warriors, Kevin Durant was successful and earned two NBA championships, as well as two NBA Finals MVPs. Widely considered as the best player in the league, Kevin Durant sadly parted ways with the Warriors, despite their efforts to hold on to him.
This year, the Warriors were still a big favorite to take the title again. Unfortunately, Durant had to sit out most of the games in the campaign due to injuries. As a result, they succumbed to the efforts of Kawhi Leonard, and lost in six games.
Kendrick Perkins, Durant’s close friend, revealed that Durant already made up his mind prior to the start of the free agency circus. This is due to an incident that happened before regular season ended. He pointed out that the altercation between Draymond Green and KD is one of the main reasons which triggered the NBA star to leave the Warriors.
Green exchanged words with Durant sometime in November, while playing against the Clippers. Green took it upon himself to remind Durant that they were already champions before he even arrived. At some point, the tension threatened to derail the season, but were fortunate enough to keep the peace as months progressed.
Durant, apparently, never got over the incident despite the fact that Green was suspended for a game due to his actions.
In an interview, Perkins said, “Kevin Durant never bounced back from the Draymond situation. I think the Warriors had a chance to sign KD back but when that situation occurred and the Warriors tried to clean it up by suspending Draymond… They suspended Draymond and then couple of months later the owner comes out and says he wants Draymond [in Golden State] for life…”
So Durant left. He is expected to sign a max four-year deal with the Brooklyn Nets very soon.
