Chuck

Chuck, or most commonly called the "Chuck-It Drill" or Dog-Fetch Drill, is a technical term in Baseball to describe a dog fetch-like drill to help the player stay compact. Although this drill can be beneficial during training, still some considered it as one of the worst hitting drills. However, considering the worst outcomes while executing the drill, Chuck-It Drill can be an acceptable training ground for young players to follow mechanical teachings, such as 'A to C' and 'Swinging Down' mechanics.

What Would Happen if the Chuck-it Drill Becomes Unsuccessful?

This drill is also called the Dog Fetch Drill, where the player can utilize their bottom hand only. This is being held in the left hand with a ball in it. The player can then proceed to a normal hitting position, while the other player is freely flinging the ball at the field. When doing the Dog-Fetch Drill, the footwork of the player is being practiced as he conditioned his foot to release the ball quickly. Thus, intense conditioning must be executed.

How to Do the Chuck-it Drill

Most of the infielders are using this drill during certain situations. During the practice game, balls are being placed for each player, so they can practice fielding blunts, while one of them is extending a line from the foul line. The third baseman would ready himself on his normal position, as he triggered to run the first ball and throw the ball towards the first baseman. When he came back to his starting position, he should go back to the field for the next ball. He should repeat these steps until he throws all five balls.

The Variation of the Chuck-It Drill

This drill has to be done by two fielders, who can do two responsibilities of fielding and throwing. These two fielders involved are usually the first and the third baseman, where the first baseman can practice the fielding blunts, while the third baseman should throw the ball to the second or first baseman. Eventually, either of them should work together on the field and throw the balls, as the baseman would also do the same thing for them. The middle infielder should also learn how to throw the ball to either of the first or third basemen.
