Beat the Rap

Beat the Rap is a phrase used in baseball with two meanings. The first one is when the player hits the ball with a runner who got out and has the potential to become a double play and a fielder’s choice. This phrase is uncommonly used during this situation. The second one is the best rap songs intended for the baseball game, which was highly recognized by Major League Baseball on an opening day to introduce the competing teams. Each team will be given an equal chance to walk up the stadium while the audiences listen to the walk-up rap songs.

What is a Fielder’s Choice?

When the player is attempting for a double play, this is called the Fielder’s Choice, by which the offensive player has to tag out the baserunner. The Fielder’s Choice is not controlled by the umpire, but this will be recorded by the official baseball scorer to take into consideration the offensive player’s record, without getting any credit if it’s a hit or a stolen base. To put out a baserunner, they have to allow the first baserunner to safely reach the first base.

The Impact on Scores and Statistics

A batter who potentially reached the first base due to the fielder’s choice is not credited with a hit, but his record would show that it’s recorded in the at-bat and plate appearance. Even so, the batter’s average will decrease because this is only out of the fielder’s choice. At this point, the baserunner shall not be rewarded with a stolen base record either.

The Best Baseball-Themed Rap Songs

Perhaps everyone can sing along with the New York anthem called the Empire State of Mind. Although this song wasn’t directly all about baseball, yet the Yankees have adapted this song to become their unofficial anthem. Some of the songs that were included in the list were pop songs, such as “4 My Town” By Birdman with featured artists Lil’ Wayne and Drake. There was a line in the lyrics that state about standing in the mound. Another one is the song, “Barry Rounds” by Kanye West, who scored a Grammy award for this song.
