Bazooka is a term used in Baseball that refers to baseball card sets, which are mostly purchased by kids. Bazooka Baseball was famous in 1960, which had wrapping and loads of bazooka gums. This merchandise was purposely aimed for kids and young adults for collection. Nowadays, Bazooka Baseball cards were sold in many online platforms with the images of their favorite baseball players for a very low price.
Bazooka Throughout the Years
Bazooka began in 1959, until it boomed in the 1960s to 1970s, to collect all-star baseball players. The cards were issued at the Bazooka Gum’s boxes. Baseball fans can see some information and images about their favorite baseball players and be intended to be cut individually out of the box.
The Problems for Bazooka Baseball Collectors
It’s quite difficult to perfect the collection because the collector has to buy many Bazooka gums before they can complete 48 cards of different baseball players. In the 1963-65 card sets, some players were rarely assigned with the same number, but beyond the years, collecting has been extremely difficult. In each box, the collector can get more than 3 dozen players with the same picture, which is infuriating for them sometimes.
The Designs of the Bazooka Cards
In each box, only 3 baseball players are displayed, and there are possibilities that half of them show the exact image. For example, in the 1966 card set, Frank Robinson had a portrait shot, while Dean Chance’s had two portraits from different California to Minnesota baseball teams. The common prize of the Bazooka is less expensive, yet it can extend to a hundred dollars depending on who was displayed in the box, especially for high-grade and popular Hall of Famers.
The Bazooka Baseball Checklist
Because of its popularity, only a few baseball players were added to the 1969 list, such as Mickey Mantle, Ed Kranepool, Sandy Koufak, Willie Norton, and Willie Mays. Meanwhile for the 1967 list was composed of Rick Reichardt, Richie Allen, Leon Wagner, and Gary Peters. Their basis for the images is according to the PSA’s Population Report of who is the most popular during that time. If they were included in the Hall of Fame, the prices of the Bazooka Baseball are more expensive than the common ones. For the Bazooka collectors, they wouldn’t mind it, as long as they have gathered enough merchandise of their favorite players.
