Away

Away, or most commonly called as the Away Team, is a terminology used in Baseball, where the players have to visit the opposing team's home court or home grounds for competition. This has become a psychological disadvantage for the away or visiting teams because they have to adjust to the home team's weather, familiar situations, and time zones. For many times, this psychological effect wasn't always effective, because the away team might have double their time practicing. Many sports are also using the "best-of" scoring formats, to schedule their game.

Factors related to the Game Location

As mentioned above, being in an Away court can be psychologically disadvantageous for the players. When players are away from their home court, they have lesser fans to cheer for them and they have to consider their hours of travels, too. These things are not being experienced by the Home Court players, because they already know the nature of their venue and they can only stay at home, rather than in hotels or anywhere expensive. At the same time, home court players have moral boosters, since thousands of their fans are on their way to support them.

Gaining or Losing Home Field

This is only psychological to most players, but game schedulers are trying to ensure that the home and away teams have equal chances to home and away games. Most of the time, the larger team gets more home appearances than the underdog teams, however, this idea was dismantled by the National Football League. During the playoff, the away team may not be given the higher or better record compared to the home team.

Neutral Venue

For many sporting events, the home advantage has to be removed due to unfair treatment to the away team. So several sports organization decided to play in a neutral venue, so both teams can feel equal cheers from their fans and to never add the psychological homesickness to the players. Another consideration for a neutral venue is when fans caused too many disturbances and violent riots, that the game scheduler didn't want to happen again.
