The term "Appeal Play" is commonly heard in Baseball where the defensive player calls the umpire's attention because of an unnoticed infraction of the opposing team. Appeal play can only be considered if the runner failed to tag up or touch the base. Legal Appeals
The fielders have the right to appeal if the ball is alive, yet it subjects to these restrictions: ensure that the ball is alive while the runner misses the home base. When the runner has an infraction, the action in the game should be relaxed. When the player attempted to appeal, the appeal should not be counted as an attempted play so he can make another appeal. When the umpire decides for a legal appeal, the runner can tag a runner at a base. Umpires can only rule with legal appeals, where it became viable.
Other Appeals
Certain situations are worth appealing, especially when the batter of the opposing team bats out of turn. Another kind of appeal is when the plate umpire can call the game A-Ball, where the player failed to bat the swing for about three times. The field umpire should be aware of the player's little action if the player has indeed swung the bat or not. Both the plate and field umpires are responsible for overseeing the game if the players have violated some rules and they should coordinate with one another to look at their better view.
How Many Appeals Are Allowed?
Each team is only permitted to use their appeal advantage once, where the defensive team has seen a potential infraction caused by the other team. The appeal will not be accepted if the throw made by the opposing team for the appeal goes out of the field. Another reason is when the player missed the call and the home plate umpire has overturned it, calling it a judgment call, but not as an appeal.
