This baseball term pertains to a hit made from one side of the plate that travels to the field’s opposite side. This technique makes it more difficult to hit the ball to the other side of the field as it needs for the bat to make contact with the ball earlier in its flight path.
An example of an “opposite field hit” is when a right-handed batter hits the ball straight into the left field.
