In baseball, the changeup is one of the slowest pitches thrown – usually done to deceive the batter. It is a staple off-speed pitch, made to look like a fastball but a changeup arrives more slowly to the plate as it is 8 to 15 miles per hour slower. Also called the dreaded equalizer, change, Bugs Bunny change-up, or change-of-pace, changeup often causes the batter to swing too early to hit the ball well.
