A rundown is a particular situation in baseball where in baserunners gets stranded in between two bags. Also known as the hotbox or a pickle, this situation jeopardizes the game since the baserunners can be tagged out. A defensive player can cut a baserunner in a rundown, and is forced to return to the previous base. A baserunner can escape the rundown if the fielder throws the ball in another direction or if the fielder makes a mistake.
