Part of baseball statistics, a batting average (BA) refers to the average number of hits per at bat. A score of .300 or 300 is considered excellent with hitters failing at least 70% of at-bats, and a score of 1.000 or one thousand is considered a perfect BA. The last known highest recorded BA is .400, achieved in a 1941 Major League level playoff.
