Any ball that comes into contact by the bat is called a batted ball. Depending on the direction after the impact or on where the ball lands, a batted ball may be further classified as a line drive, a pop fly, or a fly ball. A low-flying batted ball is known as a line drive, while a fly ball that goes high up and is caught in flight is known as a pop fly. A fly ball is any batted ball that is hit high in the air.
