A base on balls (BB) is part of the official rules wherein the first base is awarded after the batter receives four pitches. This means that the batter can go straight to the first base without being called out. Also referred to as a walk, a base on balls can increase a player’s on-base percentage but it will not affect the batting average. This call counts as a plate appearance and as a time on base.
