Bang-bang Play

Though also used in other sports such as hockey, the slang bang-bang play originated in baseball playoffs. Bang-bang plays are moves in the game that occur too fast for observers. It is most commonly used to describe a ball that is caught by the glove right before the batter reaches base, also known as a force out. Because of the quick succession, the umpire at times fails to make the call. At times, commentators drop the word “play”, and use “bang-bang” to describe a move made in a flash.
