Also known as a rule-book double, the Automatic Double is defined by the Major League Baseball as a batted ball that leaves the playing field, as long as the play does not lead to a home run. It can bounce outside the field or over the fence. The batter and the runners on base are given two bases after an automatic double is ruled.
