Shawn Douglas Bain Bowman is a professional baseball player from Canada who specializes in playing on third base. A student at the Dr. Charles Best Secondary School, Bowman played in the British Columbia Premier Baseball League as a third baseman for the Coquitlam Reds. As an 18-year old, Bowman was named to the 2002 Canadian National Team that went for the World Junior Baseball Championships.

Hitting 12 RBI in 5 games, Bowman grabbed a lot of attention by being named to the All-Star tournament team.

In 2002, the New York Mets signed Bowman in the 12th round of the MLB Draft but a failure to agree on a contract meant that there was no time for him to play in the season. Bowman began playing with the Kingsport Mets and the Brooklyn Cyclones in 2003. He moved onto the Capital City Bombers in the A-Division, batting at .258 with 19 homers and 69 RBI over a span of 116 games.

In 2005, while playing for the St. Lucie Mets in the Advanced A-Division, Bowman developed chronic back problems that all but put a halt on his playing career. Bowman, amidst rigorous treatment, only managed to play 125 games over the next three seasons in the Advanced A-League, managing a .252 batting average in 2006.

In 2008, Bowman returned to full fitness, hitting at .340 for the St. Lucie Mets in 26 games to get a promotion to the Binghampton Mets in the AA-League. Starting 2009 at Binghampton, Bowman was named to the Canadian national team for the 2009 World Baseball Classic however he didn’t play during the tournament.

A promising career slowed down by injury, Bowman was called up to the MLB roster for the 2010 Spring Training session. It is unlikely that he would be starting the season with the New York Mets in 2010 and will, in all likelihood, be sent down to the Binghampton Mets for another year.
