Andrew James Ellis is a professional baseball player who plays as a catcher. Ellis began playing at the Paul Dunbar High School where he was a two-time All-City First Team player as well as a letterman. Graduating in 1999, Ellis went on to attend the Austin Peay University. For all four seasons, Ellis was a part of the Austin Peay lineup, earning All-Ohio Valley Conference First Team honours for all four seasons.

Ellis became only the fifth player in the history of the league to achieve this feat while finishing his college career with a .351 batting average over four seasons. Ellis has also led Austin Peay with an all-time record of 263 hits over his four seasons.

At the 2003 MLB Draft, Ellis was picked in the 18th round, at 541st overall, by the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Beginning with the South Georgia Waves in 2003, in the A-League, Ellis moved up to the Advanced A-League in 2004, playing for the Vero Beach Dodgers, recording a .219 batting average for the season. He played the following season again, for the Vero Beach Dodgers, batting at .256 for the season.

In 2006, Ellis began his two season run with the Jacksonville Suns, recording a .241 batting average that rose to .269 in 2007. Moving up to the AAA-League to play with the Las Vegas 51s, Ellis was in his elements, batting at .321 in 274 at-bats. He was called up to make his debut as a pinch runner for Nomar Garciaparra in the MLB team, in September, 2008.

In 2009, Ellis was again sent down to the AAA-League to play with the Albuquerque Isotopes. He demonstrated his ability with a .314 batting average and a .438 on-base percentage. He got his second call up to the Los Angeles Dodgers towards the end of the year, playing just 8 games with 10 at-bats. His first hit in the MLB came against the Colorado Rockies in October, 2009.

For the 2010 season, Ellis has been named to the 40-man roster as a probable for the new season.
