Juan Perez
Juan P. Perez is a professional baseball player from the Dominican Republic who plays as a pitcher. Perez made his entry into the United States baseball scenario in 2002 when he joined the Boston Red Sox as an undrafted free agent in 1998. His debut for the Sarasota Red Sox came in 2002, in the Advanced A-League and Perez played 16 games to finish the season with a 0-6 win-loss record and a 3.78 ERA.
He played for the Portland Sea Dogs in 2004, in the AA-League before being promoted to the AAA-League in the following year, after a no-win, no-loss performance for the Sea Dogs. He was named to the 2004 All-Stars Futures game after his 5-1 showing with the Sea Dogs.
In the AAA-League, playing for the Pawtucket Red Sox, Perez played 40 games and pitched 62 innings at an ERA of 4.50. It was at this point in his career that he made his first move after the New York Mets bought out his contract with the Red Sox.
Assigned to the Norfolk Tide in the AAA-League, Perez was used in 43 games where his 2.86 ERA in 63 innings pitched caught the eye of the Pittsburgh Pirates who decided to bring him on board. With the Pirates, Perez was again assigned to the AAA-League with the Indianapolis Indians before being called up to the MLB roster for 7 games towards the end of the 2006 season.
Although he began 2007 with the Indians, Perez moved to the Pirates again after 40 games in the AAA-League. This time ‘round, Perez was a part of 17 games for the MLB roster where he pitched in just 12.1 innings. Perez was released by the Pirates at the beginning of the 2008 season and re-signed a few days later. He was sent to the Rookie League for 4 games, playing with the Gulf Coast Pirates, before moving back up to the Indians in the AAA-League. At the end of 2008, Perez turned free agent and was signed by the Atlanta Braves on a minor league contract with an invite for their Spring Training session.
Perez never made it to the MLB roster for the Braves but at the end of 2009, signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers on a minor league contract. He was named as part of the Spring Training roster for 2010.
