Brett Gregory Hayes is a professional American baseball player who plays as a catcher. The grandson of Tim Hayes Sr., a former professional baseball player; and the son of Tim Hayes Jr., who was picked by the Kansas City Royals although never played at the highest level; Brett Hayes went to the Notre Dame High School where he was a starter in his final three years in high school.
Hayes went onto attend the University of Reno Nevada where he was named WAC Freshman of the Year as well as named to the All-American Freshman team. He played three years for the Wolfpack and only missed a single game as their catcher.
Hayes joined the minor leagues in the Florida Marlins organization after not being picked in the Draft, mainly due to the fact that Hayes’ college was not amongst the A-level colleges that always get the preference. Therefore Hayes had to travel the hard way, qualifying for the teams at the A-League and then getting into the organization.
