William Dexter Fowler is a professional baseball player from the United States of America and is a specialist center fielder. Fowler signed up with the Colorado Rockies directly after high school, turning down offers from Harvard University and the University of Miami, after he was picked in the 14th round of the 2004 MLB Amateur Draft.

Fowler began in the Rookie League and was soon rocketing up the ranks. In 2008, he was picked to play in the All-Stars Futures Game and proved his worth at the top level. At the time, Fowler was with the AA-League team, the Tulsa Drillers and was averaging .337 with the bat and had 9 homers, 61 RBI and 20 stolen bases to his name. He went on to represent Team USA at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and was part of the Bronze medal winning team.

In September of 2008, Fowler received a call up for the MLB roster and made his debut for the Rockies in a 6-5 win over the San Francisco Giants. He came on as a pinch runner but was picked off at first base. The following day, he made his first at-bat debut but was caught out in the right field.

Fowler hit his first home run against Doug Davis of the Arizona Diamondbacks in a 9-2 win, hitting the homer off of the first pitch of the game to become the first Rockies’ player ever to do so. Fowler went on to steal five bases in a single game against the San Diego Padres to tie the rookie record for most stolen bases in a single game.
