Jose Ledezma
Wilfredo Jose Ledezma is a Venezuelan pitcher who plays in the American League with the Arizona Diamondbacks. A lefty, Ledezma is also known to bat for the team. Although, Ledezma was originally picked by the Boston Red Sox in 1998, he was brought into the Detroit Tigers in the 2002 Rule 5 Draft.
With the Tigers, he spent a majority of the time in the Minor Leagues although by the end of 2005, his on-off appearances in the Major League games for the Tigers had resulted in a 9-14 win record with 108 strikeouts and a 5.73 ERA over 187.0 innings. His first win came in the form of relief pitcher against the St. Louis Cardinals.
But it wasn't until 2006 that Ledezma got his first start in the Major League. The start came as a result of a last-minute injury to Justin Verlander, the rookie-starter. In 5 2/3rd innings, Ledezma didn't give away any runs in that game. Ledezma, in 2006, had a moment of madness wherein, after giving away 5 runs by the fourth innings, he began ripping his hat apart, and then proceeded to eat it.
The Atlanta Braves took Ledezma on-board in return for Macay McBride in the middle of 2007. On arrival, Ledezma was put on the restricted list and 6 days later, he was off it.
On a trip back home to Venezuela, he damaged his VISA and passport in a washing machine.
The Arizona Diamondbacks claimed Ledezma off waivers in 2008.
