Career

Iwamura began his professional journey in the Japanese Central League with the Tokyo Yakult Swallows, where he initially played third base. His outstanding performance earned him a spot on the Japan national baseball team, contributing to their success in the 2006 World Baseball Classic. After showcasing his talents in Japan, he decided to pursue a career in MLB, opting to be posted in the offseason of 2006. The Tampa Bay Devil Rays won the bidding war with a $4.5 million offer, leading to a three-year contract valued at $7.7 million.
