Career
Washburn's journey began at Webster High School, where he showcased his pitching talent before moving on to the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. Selected in the second round of the 1995 MLB Draft by the California Angels, he worked through the minor leagues to make his big league debut on June 2, 1998. Although his initial years in the majors saw him fluctuating between the big leagues and minor league assignments, he solidified his place as a regular starter by 2001.His tenure with the Angels was marked by a standout 2005 season, where he finished with an 8-8 record and an ERA of 3.20. After becoming a free agent, Washburn signed a lucrative four-year deal worth $37.5 million with the Seattle Mariners in December 2005. While his first season with Seattle was disappointing, his performance gradually improved, particularly notable during the middle of the 2008 season when he recorded an ERA of 3.24 over several weeks despite facing challenges with run support.
