Early Life and Education

Miguel attended Nuevo Horizontes High School in Santo Domingo, where his baseball talent began to shine. By 1988, he had caught the eye of scouts and was signed as an amateur free agent by the Montreal Expos, marking the beginning of his professional journey.

Minor Leagues

Batista developed his skills in the minor leagues, showcasing his potential as a reliable pitcher. His journey took a significant turn in 1991 when he was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates during the Rule 5 draft, but soon after he found himself back with the Expos.

Major League Career

He made his MLB debut on April 11, 1992, although his time with the Pirates was short-lived. After being released by the Expos in 1994, Batista signed with the Florida Marlins, but his path continued to be a winding road through several teams, including the Chicago Cubs and back to the Expos. Notably, he was traded to the Kansas City Royals in 2000, and later signed with the Arizona Diamondbacks, where he enjoyed some of his most productive years.

In December 2006, Batista joined the Seattle Mariners, where he shifted from a starting role to a reliever towards the end of his tenure. His ability to adapt to various pitching positions has been a hallmark of his career, showcasing his resilience and skill.
