Ozuna’s full name is Marcell Ozuna Idelfonso. He was born on November 12, 1990, in Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic. He is a cousin to Pablo Ozuna who also played in the MLB. His father was a painter and his mother served as a housekeeper.

The Minors
In 2008, Ozuna was signed by the Marlins as an International Free Agent. In the summer of that year, he played for the Dominican Summer League Marlins. In 2009, he was assigned to play for the GCL Marlins.
Other Minor League teams he has played for include the Greensboro Grasshoppers, the Jupiter Hammerheads, and the Jacksonville Suns.
The Major League
Ozuna was promoted by the Miami Marlins to their 40-man roster on April 2013, on the same day that he was named the Southern League’s Player of the Week. He debuted in the MLB on April 30, 2013. That same day, he made his first MLB career hit.
In July of that year, he had to undergo thumb surgery that effectively ended his first season with the Marlins. In 2015, he was sent back to the AAA when his averages went down. He was back on their roster come 2016 and in 2017, he was named the NL Player of the Week.
In both 2016 and 2017, he was named to the MLB All-Star Game. He also won a Silver Slugger award in 2017, which is something he will be awarded again in 2020.
He was traded to the St. Louis Cardinals in December 2017 and he started with them in January 2018. They signed a one-year contract. Ozuna helped the Cardinals reach the 2019 National League Division Series.
When his contract was done with the Cardinals, Ozuna signed on to play for the Atlanta Braves. In 2021, he signed a four-year contract with the Braves.
