Minor Leagues
Veras began his journey in baseball as an undrafted free agent, signing with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in 1998. Initially utilized as a starting pitcher in the minor leagues, he faced challenges as he progressed to AAA. This prompted a pivotal switch to relief pitching, a role that would ultimately suit him well. After the 2004 season, he was released, but his determination led him to sign with the Texas Rangers in 2005, where he continued to develop in their AAA system. In 2006, Veras signed with the Yankees and made his major league debut that same season. However, he spent a considerable amount of time honing his skills in the minors. An injury in early 2007 sidelined him, but he made a strong comeback, earning a call-up in September. By 2008, he solidified his place in the Yankees' bullpen, stepping up as the set-up man following the trade of Kyle Farnsworth.
