Paul Goldschmidt is an American professional baseball player in the Major League. As of the 2021 Season, he plays for the St. Louis Cardinals as a first baseman. He is a right-handed player and he stands six feet and 2 inches tall. Goldschmidt or ‘Goldy’ as he is also known attended Texas State University and was recruited into the MLB in the 2009 pick. In addition to the MLB, Goldschmidt has also played for the US National Team for the 2017 World Baseball Classic in Los Angeles.

Goldschmidt was born Paul Edward Goldschmidt on September 10, 1987. Growing up in Wilmington, Delaware, he was a fan of the Houston Astros. From Delaware, his family moved to Houston, Texas. There he attended The Woodlands HS. He helped them win the 2006 State Championship. He was drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers but chose to attend Texas State University. In 2008 and 2009, he was named Hitter of the Year for the Southland Conference.

In the 2009 MLB draft, he was picked by the Arizona Diamondbacks. He signed with them and was assigned to play for the Missoula Osprey. Other teams he played for in the minor league include the Visalia Rawhide and the Mobile Bay Bears. He was promoted to play in the Majors in 2011. In 2012, he hit his first career Grand Slam during a regular season. Before the start of the 2013 season, Goldschmidt and the Diamondbacks had agreed to a contract that would extend to 2018.

Goldschmidt would spend much of 2014 on the disabled list after he broke a bone on his hand. He was back in form in 2015 and hit his 100th career home run in June. In 2016, he batted an average of 0.297 and had 24 home runs. For the first time in his major league career, he was named to the NL All-Star team in 2017. He hit his 200th career home run in August of 2018.

He was traded to the St. Louis Cardinals in late 2018. Goldschmidt and the Cardinals agreed to a five-year contract worth $130 million. As a Cardinal, he was nominated for his first-ever Gold Glove Award in 2019. He had a bone spur surgery in 2020. In 2021, he hit his 250th home run in April.
