Chris Sale is an American professional baseball player in the Major League. He plays for the Boston Red Sox. He stands six feet and 6 inches tall and his listed weight is 183 lbs. Nicknamed ‘Stickman’ and ‘The Condor’, Sale is a left-handed player and he throws and bats with his left arm. He declined and chose to go to college instead at the Florida Gulf Coast University. Major League teams he has played for include the Boston Red Sox and the Chicago White Sox.
Sale was born Christopher Allen Sale on March 30, 1989 in Lakeland, Florida. He attended and graduated from Lakeland Senior High School where he played both baseball and football. He was drafted by the Colorado Rockies, but instead, he went to college and attended the Florida Gulf Coast University where he played for the Eagles.
In 2010, Sale was drafted by the White Sox and he was their 10th overall pick. He signed with them in the same year and was assigned to play for the Winston-Salem Dash. He was later promoted to play for the Charlotte Knights. Sale made his Major League debut in August of that year when he was called up to play against the Baltimore Orioles. In 2012, he was chosen to play at the 83rd All-Star Game. In 2013, he was signed to a 5-year contract with the White Sox.
In April 2014, he had a flexor strain and had to be placed on the disabled list. He ended that year being third in the running for the Cy Young Award. In 2015 he was also placed on the disabled list because of a foot injury. In June of that year, he tied an MLB record for eight consecutive starts with 10 or more strikeouts. He also set the White Sox record for the most strikeouts in a season.
In 2016, Sale was traded to the Boston Red Sox. He switched his number from 49 to 41 when he switched teams. At the start of 2019, he was signed by the Red Sox to a five-year extension of his contract. In that year, he threw two immaculate innings. One in May and another in June. At the start of the 2020 season, it was announced that he had to sit it out because of pneumonia. Later it was announced that he had to have a Tommy John Surgery.
