Early Life and Education
Crain's athletic journey began at Fairview High School in Boulder, Colorado, where he excelled in baseball, basketball, and football. His exceptional performance on the baseball field earned him the title of 1999 All-State and the prestigious Colorado High School Player of the Year. After high school, he attended San Jacinto Junior College in Texas, where he played as a shortstop and was recognized as an All-Conference player.In 2002, Crain transferred to the University of Houston, furthering his baseball career. He distinguished himself as both a shortstop and relief pitcher, earning multiple accolades, including first-team All-American honors from Baseball America and being named to the Conference USA All-Academic team.
Minor and Major League Career
Crain was drafted by the Minnesota Twins and began his ascent through the minor leagues. He made his major league debut in August 2004, quickly making a name for himself by finishing with an impressive record of 3-0 and a 2.00 ERA. His performance in 2005 saw him start the season with a remarkable 8-0 record, setting a franchise record for the most consecutive wins in relief to begin a career.However, Crain's career encountered a setback in May 2007 when he sustained a torn rotator cuff and labrum, which required surgery and sidelined him for the remainder of the season. After making a successful return in 2008, he continued to demonstrate his skill on the mound.
