Nick Markakis is a former professional baseball player from the United States, known for his impressive career as a left fielder. Born on November 17, 1983, in Glen Cove, New York, he grew up in Woodstock, Georgia, where his passion for the game began to flourish.

Career

Markakis attended Woodstock High School, where his talent on the field caught the attention of scouts. After high school, he opted to play college baseball at Young Harris College instead of signing with the Cincinnati Reds, who had drafted him in 2001 and again in 2002. His decision to refine his skills in college paid off when he was selected 7th overall by the Baltimore Orioles in the first round of the 2003 MLB Draft.

His minor league journey began with the Aberdeen IronBirds, followed by stints with the Delmarva Shorebirds, Frederick Keys, and Bowie Baysox. By 2006, he had established himself as a top hitting prospect in the Orioles' system, leading to his major league debut on April 3, 2006. Markakis quickly became a mainstay in the Orioles lineup, showcasing his offensive capabilities and defensive prowess.
