College Career

Before stepping onto the professional stage, Ring honed his skills at San Diego State University, where he excelled as a closer. Initially drafted by the Cleveland Indians straight out of high school, he chose to develop his talent further in college, a decision that would pay off in spades.

Professional Career

Ring's journey in Major League Baseball began when he was picked 18th overall in the first round of the 2002 MLB Draft by the Chicago White Sox. His transition to the big leagues gained momentum when he was traded to the New York Mets in 2003 as part of a deal that involved veteran player Roberto Alomar. However, his debut in the 2004 season was less than stellar, leading to a challenging period where he was left unprotected in the Rule V Draft.

Playing Style

Ring was known for his left-handed pitching abilities, which provided a strategic advantage in matchups against right-handed batters. His perseverance and adaptability were key traits, showcasing his determination to succeed despite facing numerous trials throughout his career.
