The Phillies may soon be seeing Brett Myers back in action although as a reliever instead of a starter after a quick recovery from his hip surgery. The Philadelphia Phillies’ bullpen is under stress after being hit by a number of injuries and Myers might just be the relief that they need.>
“I just felt like for me to get back quicker, it would have to be out of the bullpen,” he said. “Who knows? Maybe at some point after throwing a few games out of the bullpen, if I’m stretched out to 75 pitches, we’ll see what happens. You never know.”
Chad Durbin, J. C. Romero and Clay Condrey, all relievers and all out with injury; have caused a lot of problems for the Phillies but are expected to return soon. Myers could just add to that list and strengthen the Phillies.
Myers underwent surgery on the 4th of June to repair a torn Labrum and was thought to be out for the season. However, he has made an incredible comeback with doctors and therapists claiming that he could be out even before the end of the 2009 season.
“[The therapist] basically kept encouraging me. So then I was like, ‘I’ll show you I can do more.’ And he was like, ‘I can’t believe you’re doing this, I can’t believe you’re doing that, I haven’t seen anything like this before,’” said Myers. “He wasn’t saying definitely, but after seeing both [the surgeon and therapist] July 1, they said there’s no doubt in their mind I could be back at some point mid-to-late August.”
