The name Jess Todd will now be associated with the Cleveland Indians. He is the player to be named from the St. Louis Cardinals in the mark derosa Mark DeRosa deal. The Indians had previously acquired reliever Chris Perez in that trade.

Todd was a second-round pick by the Cardinals out of the University of Arkansas in the 2007 June draft. He was the Cardinals Minor League Pitcher of the Year in 2008. This season, he has appeared in 41 games at AAA Memphis, has a 4-2 record, 2.20 ERA and 24 saves.

Todd has pitched 49 innings and has given up only 39 hits. He has struck 59 and only 13 walks. He is a solid prospect and could make this trade of DeRosa for Perez and Rodd one of Mark Shapairo’s trade.

Todd has been assigned to Class AAA Columbus. He provides immediate depth to the pitching situation with the Tribe. Chris Perez had two or three rocky outings in his first two appearances after being acquired in a trade with St. Louis. But in his last five appearances Perez has pitched five scoreless and hitless innings, with six strikeouts and one walk. Jose Veras may become expendable.
