What we have here is a failure to see the big picture. Baseball plods on through a tiring economy. The owners of nearly all major league teams are discounting tickets and families are making sure there are deals and discounts to utilize. Who is benefiting from any of this?

No one. everybody is hurting. Well, almost everybody. The players are not complaining. Even though 14 out of the 30 teams in MLB have a lower payroll in 2009 than in 2008, the average salary for a pro today is…What ? You have got to be joking! Are you serious?!?!!?? Folks, the average salary fora’’ player on ‘‘a 25 man major league roster is $3.26 million.

So if a player, not a star, but an average player played in all 162 games(Cal Ripken, where are you now?), he would make $20,123.45 per game. PER GAME! And if that player spends a 8 hour day for each game, his hourly rate is $2,515.per hour. PER HOUR ! Two Grand every hour.

My personal opinion? Let the owners discount all they want. The bluff has been called. Owners know that they get advertising dollars and a loyal fan base. Attendance is down, but not out. If you want to see salaries come back down in our stratosphere, please boycott the games. If we do not fill the seats, the players are not going to have value and the owners will not have a leg tro stand on. Attendance is the main source of revenue and then a hefty cut of the concessions.

I say enough. If we do not take a stand now, salaries will keep rising. Let’s show the league , the owners and especially the players that we have had enough. ““If we don’t go, there is no show.” Go see a minor league team, a high school team or a little league game. We can show them who the winner is.

Players put in a lot more than just the 8 hours, being away from home for weeks at a time. Also they'll work 12 plus hours for 9 months a year. Them working and getting better is inspired by the reward of a big contract, so why boycott the games because other people are good enough to do something you like watching them do. If you don't like baseball players and their salaries then sell your ticket, I'm pretty sure someone will buy it who watches baseball for what it truly is..
