Its four to six weeks for Josh Hamilton as he prepares to undergo surgery on Tuesday to repair the partial tear to his abdominal muscle. The Texas Rangers will be without his services for the period and according to manager Ron Washington, the time duration for the recovery is less than what they expected. 4-6 weeks for more High-Fives>

“That’s great because we thought it would be longer,” said Washington. “It looks like we’ll have a chance to get him back after the [July] All-Star break. At least it won’t be September.”

There was a small scare in the team that Hamilton had had a case of hernia, similar to what had put another teammate Ian Kinsler on the sidelines for 12 weeks. The MRI conducted for the injury on Hamilton clearly confirmed the diagnosis of a partial tear.

The surgery will be performed by Dr. William Meyers, the same doctor who Hamilton went to during the initial diagnosis stage. The injury occurred after Hamilton crashed into the outfield wall while making a catch against the Los Angeles Angels.

Monday brought more injury news for the Rangers as Brandon McCarthy, their starting pitcher, has been diagnosed with a stress fracture on his right shoulder blade and will miss his start against the Toronto Blue Jays. This injury is also a recurrence of the 2007 layoff that kept McCarthy out of the team. McCarthy currently leads the team with 5 wins to his name, also a career-best performance. Doug Mathis will be coming in for the injured McCarthy on Tuesday. In case Mathis is needed as a relief man, that would change plans for the night. A 4-2 record in the AAA-league at Oklahoma City along with a 2.89 ERA is what Mathis has to show before the proposed start on Tuesday. He has previously pitched in just one inning in the MLB.
