The Chicago White Sox won last night against the New York Yankees, putting them two games ahead of the Minnesota Twins, who lost to the Cleveland Indians.
The loss to the Indians was a heart-breaking one for the Twins, as they’d gone down by seven runs, and managed to claw their way back to a tie. But their closer, Joe Nathan, gave up three runs in the 12th inning, and that’s all she wrote.
There are eleven games left in the season, so the Twins need to play winning baseball, and they need to be helped out by the ChiSox who have to play some losing baseball!
It’s particularly important for the Twins to play good baseball, as their next series is against the Tampa Bay Rays…and it will certainly help the Red Sox if the Twins can take at least 2 out of 3 from the Rays.
On the other hand, the Twins and the ChiSox go head-to-head in a three-game series, from the 23 to the 25 September, so they can help themselves at that point as well.
Meanwhile, the ChiSox have a relatively easy schedule, facing the Indians and the Royals… and so if they can take care of business at the Twins house, they’ll have the race locked up.
