The BoSox are battling with the Rays for first place in the division. The Rays at one point had a sizeable lead, but it turned out to not be comfortable enough. The Rays went on a slide and the BoSox went on a tear.
Last night, Monday, the BoSox defeated the Rays in the first game of the series, 3-0, and thus drew within 1/2 game of the division lead.
In addition to going head to head with the Rays, the BoSox play most of their remaining games at home, where the wins come much easier than they do on the road. (And since they face the Rays for three games at the Rays’ stadium next week, it’s imperative that they win all of the contests this time around.
On Monday, Jon Lester got the win for the BoSox, while Edwin Jackson took the loss for the Rays. Jackson is now 11-10 on the year, Lester, 14-5.
